A Delta Airlines flight from Detroit to Amsterdam had to be diverted to New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport due to an incident involving spoiled food served on board.
The incident occurred early Wednesday morning, and airline representatives have already begun an investigation to determine the exact causes of the problem.
The Delta Airlines overnight flight took off from Detroit at around 11 p.m. local time on Tuesday, carrying 277 passengers. However, at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, the plane unexpectedly landed in New York. According to a statement from the airline, the decision to divert the flight was made after receiving reports that part of the food service in the main cabin was in poor condition.
Upon arrival at JFK Airport, the flight was met by emergency medical personnel. The New York Fire Department confirmed that 12 passengers were treated for symptoms related to eating the spoiled food. It has not yet been specified how many of the passengers on board ate the contaminated food.

A spokesperson for the airline stated: “This is not the service Delta is known for and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delays to their travels.”
