Chivas Rayadas de Guadalajara striker Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez revealed to his fans that he suffered a serious injury during the Liga MX preseason that almost forced him to miss the entire campaign and even end his professional career due to how risky it was; despite this, he managed to overcome it positively to support the team in fighting as best as possible in the competition.

These statements were made by the iconic captain of the Mexican national team during a broadcast on his Twitch channel, where he revealed that he suffered a sprain in preseason that could have caused a torn cruciate ligament (the same one he suffered with the LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer), an injury that kept him off the field for several months and this time his recovery could have been much later.

“I think we dodged a very hard bullet, I could have torn the cruciate ligament in the other knee due to an unintentional tackle, it was an accident, but I almost broke the ligament, fortunately it was a sprain,” said Chicharito.

The Chivas de Guadalajara forward explained that this was the reason why he was unable to participate in the preseason quadrangular a few weeks ago; fortunately for him, the injury was a sprain in the medial collateral ligament of his left knee, so he only needs to recover to be able to overcome it.

“That’s why I couldn’t go to Zacatecas, it happened to me on the second to last day of the preseason in Cancun, if I show you the damn photo, you have no idea, they almost screwed up my knee. Fortunately, because of the work I do, it helped my hips move in a certain way so that my knee would be saved, if I hurt my knee like that again, I would retire,” he concluded in his statements.

During the Liga MX Clausura 2024 tournament, the Aztec player played six regular phase matches in which he managed to score a goal, while in the Liguilla of the championship he played another four matches with a better performance although without being able to score a goal.
