Mexican director Guillermo del Toro took to social media to launch a petition to the Canadian government in support of one of the most traditional independent cinemas in the city of Toronto: the Revue.

Through his official X account, the writer also made a call for help to the mayor of the Canadian city, Olivia Chow, in order to take “action on the matter” in favor of the cinema, recognized as the oldest active cinema in Toronto.

Mayor Olivia Chow, can you help save Revue, one of Canada’s most beloved non-profit cultural landmarks? Nearly 20,000 signatures have been collected. If not you, who can help? Or how can I help?

Why is the Revue closing and why has Guillermo del Toro intervened on its behalf?

In a later message, the author of “Pacific Rim” once again shared his concern about the room with Chow, and also called on some of the city council members to “respond” to the citizen petition. He also posted the petition, which was made on the website change.org, to encourage residents to join the initiative.

According to local reports, the Revue is on the verge of closing down because the current managers cannot afford the rent increase, which was set by the building’s owners. The courts have even been resorted to inducing the closure of the cultural centre.

Regarding Del Toro’s speech, the Mexican has repeatedly mentioned the great “love” he has for the Canadian city, to the point of calling it his second home and where he usually resides for much of the year.

So far, and following the publications of the Latin director, the Canadian authorities have not commented on the matter.

Guillermo del Toro arrives in London to continue with his “Frankenstein”

Following Guillermo del Toro’s call, the director shared on his social media his arrival in London, England, in order to look for locations and photograph models for his current project “Frankenstein.”

In the shared image, the Oscar winner for “The Shape of Water” took a photo of himself with one of London’s most iconic mystery, science fiction and collectible book stores: Forbidden Planet: The Cult Entertainment Megastore.

According to local media, Del Toro will also travel to Scotland to film a series of scenes until October. Production is expected to move into Glasgow and Edinburgh in the following weeks.
