Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez became a hero for the Argentine national team once again. The goalkeeper saved two penalties and gave his team the qualification to the semifinals of the Copa América against Ecuador.
Lionel Scaloni’s team tied the game 1-1 after 90 minutes and defeated their rivals 4-2 in the penalty shootout thanks to the great level of “Dibu”.
“Dibu” Martínez stopped shots from Ángel Mena and Alan Minda and even indulged in celebrating with his classic little dance. However, there was one gesture that went virtually unnoticed.
The valuable gesture of “Dibu” Martinez with Alexander Dominguez
The star of the quarterfinal match approached Ecuadorian goalkeeper Alexander Domínguez and genuinely consoled him after his team’s elimination, which showed great tenacity and courage.
Martínez did not hesitate to give Domínguez a hug and comfort him with words of encouragement.
At a time of high tension for the fans, the Aston Villa star chose to accompany his Ecuadorian colleague, once again demonstrating his sensitivity and respect.
As expected, “Dibu” Martínez’s gesture of camaraderie received a standing ovation from the crowd at Houston’s NRG Stadium, as well as from users on social media.
