In a shocking and intriguing twist, a 60-year-old man was reunited with his wife just 4 days after what he believed was her funeral. Ram Sumer, a resident of Gorakhpur, India, reported his 40-year-old wife Phoolmati missing and never imagined the incredible series of events that would follow.
On June 15, Phoolmati left her parents’ house to head home, but never arrived. Desperate, Sumer reported her missing to the police. Four days later, the body of a woman was discovered in the nearby Uruva Bazaar neighborhood. Sumer, recognizing the clothes and physical characteristics of the body, identified it as that of his wife and performed the cremation.
The case took an unexpected turn when the post-mortem examination revealed that the woman had been strangled, raising suspicions among the authorities and prompting them to investigate further. Police traced Phoolmati’s mobile phone, which was still showing activity, and located it in the city of Jhansi, about 600 kilometres from Gorakhpur.
Call records on Phoolmati’s phone indicated frequent communications with a man named Shubham. On questioning, Shubham confessed that Phoolmati was alive and was in Jhansi. He provided the police with the exact address, where she was eventually found safe and sound.
Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Tomar confirmed that Phoolmati was brought back to Gorakhpur on June 22 after recording her statement. The news of her return caused a stir in the community, which was still processing the shocking discovery.
The authorities are now focused on unraveling the complex relationship between Ram Sumer, Phoolmati, Shubham and the unidentified woman who was cremated. CCTV footage obtained by the police shows a suspicious individual, whose identity and connection to the case they hope to clarify.
This case has captured the attention of not only the local community but also the national media due to its intriguing nature and the many questions it raises.
