Mexican Checo Pérez had a good second free practice for the British Grand Prix, finishing in third position, behind Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Sergio Pérez had his first hour of practice at Silverstone after lending his car to young F2 driver Isack Hadjar.
The Guadalajara native did not waste a single minute of the afternoon and went out on the track from the first moments and did so with medium tires, the compound used by most of the drivers at the start of the second session.
The first lap was a 1:29.399 that put him in fourteenth position and a second and a half behind the first place, Max Verstappen, who led from the start with a 1:27.831.
The Guadalajara native had to do two more laps to get his tires ready and in a new lap he jumped to seventh place with a time of 1:28.622.
The Red Bull driver continued to turn constantly putting in fast laps and his time was dropping. Before returning to the garage he left a 1:28.185, although his difference with respect to Verstappen was .952 tenths, who would end up in seventh place.
Checo Pérez returned to the track with soft tyres and with the aim of attacking with faster laps.
The times began to drop on the counter and the Mexican was relegated to the last positions, but after preparing his fastest lap he jumped to seventh place and clocked 1:27.331 which put him once again in seventh position.
The team called Checo Pérez into the pits to fit a new set of tyres and he returned to the track to once again lower the fastest times. Checo improved his time and moved up to third place with a 1:26.983. Sergio’s time was four tenths slower than leader Lando Norris, while Oscar Piastri was second.
The Mexican returned to the garage to make some adjustments to his RB20, fill up the gas tank and return to the track to do race simulation and begin to set times of 1:32, being below the McLarens and his own teammate Max Verstappen.
The rain arrived in the final minutes of FP2, so Perez and some other drivers decided to fit the intermediate rain tyres and analyse the wet track. Forecasts show a possibility of rain for Sunday’s race.
Checo Pérez will be looking to regain the top spots this weekend, having only scored 11 points in the last four races, which has caused him to drop from second to fifth place in the drivers’ world championship.
