Former US President Donald Trump on Friday distanced himself from Project 2025, a government programme drawn up by ultra-conservative groups in case the Republican returns to the White House, saying that some of its proposals are ridiculous.
“I don’t know anything about Project 2025. I have no idea who is behind it. I don’t agree with some of the things they say and some of the things they say are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal,” Trump said on the Truth Social network.
The New York tycoon wished the authors of the plan “luck” but insisted that it had “nothing to do with them,” according to the Efe news agency.
Project 2025, promoted by the Heritage Foundation, proposes a roadmap for a radical change in the US administration if the Republican wins the elections on November 5.
The plans include dismantling several federal government agencies and replacing thousands of civil servants with Donald Trump loyalists who will implement a far-right agenda without objection.
President Joe Biden’s election campaign stressed on Friday that Trump and Project 2025 are one and the same. According to a statement, much of the former president’s inner circle is involved in the project, their agendas are identical and his political action committee for fundraising has announced the plan.
The Democratic National Committee added that Project 2025 is a gigantic coordinated operation with an extreme plan to “destroy freedoms and undermine democracy” in the United States.
Donald Trump, Efe notes, is currently leading in the polls against Joe Biden, who had an unfavorable performance in the electoral debate on June 27. However, the Republican needs to appeal to undecided and moderate voters to ensure his victory in November.
