Throughout history, Mexico has produced great boxing figures. From Carlos Zárate Serna, through Julio César Chávez and Juan Manuel Márquez, to today with Canelo Álvarez.

This great ability to export the best boxers is highlighted by Mauricio Sulaimán, president of the World Boxing Council, who recently in an interview with the Marca newspaper He took the opportunity to praise the talent and the great moment that Mexican boxing is experiencing.

“Mexican boxing is tireless in talent and is the sport of Mexicans,” said the top leader of the world organization.

“We are going through a great moment in Mexican boxing with the captain of champions, Canelo, who is the most important boxer in the world, but also behind and alongside Canelo there are champions who are at the top level. Mexican boxing is always ahead and there will be boxing for a while,” the director continued.

In addition to praising Canelo and considering him the most important boxer of today, Sulaimán also commented on the possible replacement that Álvarez could have, since the 33-year-old from Guadalajara does not have much time left in the boxing elite.

“Just as Chavez was the main attraction at one time, there was ‘Chiquita’ Gonzalez, Ricardo Lopez or Miguel Angel Gonzalez, but Chavez captured all the attention of the public. Right now there is Canelo, but there are many more and we don’t know where the next Canelo will come from,” said Sulaiman.

On the other hand, Mauricio said that the development of a boxer’s career is a little more complex compared to other sports.

For Mauricio Sulaimán, the boxer is taking a slower pace to achieve sporting glory.

“We live in a new, different world that didn’t exist before. With social media everything is fast and immediate, there is a demand for information and results. However, in boxing it is not possible to do so, because it is a very long process to go from amateur to professional and solidify a career with a championship,” concluded the president.
