Mississippi authorities have begun a search for two inmates arrested on murder charges who managed to escape from prison and are currently fugitives from justice.

“Early this morning, two inmates escaped from the Claiborne County Detention Center,” the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement on social media Friday. “The escape occurred at approximately 2:20 a.m.”

Officials said the two suspects are Tyrekennel Collins, a 24-year-old dark-skinned man who was behind bars in Copiah County, and Dezarrious Johnson, an 18-year-old man who was being held in Jefferson County, but in the Natchez area.

Sheriff Edward Goods said the two inmates were caught on security cameras escaping through the roof and exiting through an exterior wall, according to WAPT.

“When you have someone in jail and they’re charged with murder, you take them in as quickly as possible because we don’t want them to get out and hurt any more people,” Jefferson County Sheriff James Bailey said, according to ABC News.

The two men are considered dangerous and officers called on all citizens to take the necessary precautions.

“Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Tyrekennel Collins or Dezarrious Johnson is asked to immediately contact the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department,” police said. “The safety of the public is our top priority and we appreciate the community’s cooperation in this matter.”
