The Brazilian national team was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Copa América by Uruguay on penalties after a 0-0 draw in 90 minutes. This elimination of the five-time world champions extends a bad streak for the South American team that is currently sixth in the Conmebol Qualifiers table.

Before the start of the tournament, the Brazilian team already knew that it would be without its captain Neymar Jr., so figures like Rodrygo and Vinícius Jr. would have to represent the Brazilian team.

However, we saw very little of the Real Madrid players. Especially Vinícius, who despite scoring two goals against Paraguay, did not have the same luck in the rest of the matches and even ended up missing the quarter-finals against Uruguay due to an accumulation of cards.

Even the footballer himself recently took to social media to take responsibility for his team’s elimination. He claims that both yellow cards he received in the group stage were avoidable.

“The Copa America is over and it is time to reflect, to learn how to deal with defeat. The feeling of frustration is back. Once again it is a penalty shoot-out,” the talented Real Madrid player began on social media.

Vinícius continued to take responsibility for the two yellow cards in the group stage, against Paraguay and Colombia, which left the Brazilian team with a tough loss ahead of the decisive match against Uruguay.

“I failed to receive two avoidable yellow cards. I watched the elimination from the sidelines again, but this time it is my fault. I apologise for that. I know how to listen to criticism and the harshest, believe me, comes from within,” stressed the 23-year-old attacker, assuming his responsibility and apologising to the fans.

Vinícius also left a message of encouragement for all Brazilian fans and stated that his journey with the Verdeamarela shirt has just begun.

“My journey with the national team has fortunately only just begun. Together with my teammates, I will have the opportunity to bring our team back to the place it deserves,” Vini concluded.
