The former US president confirmed on Saturday that he was shot while giving a speech at a political event in Butler, Pennsylvania. In a brief statement posted on his social network Truth, he expressed his astonishment at the dangerous situation and gave details of how the events occurred.

“I was shot with a bullet that went through the top of my right ear. There was a lot of bleeding, so I realized what was happening,” he said.

“I knew immediately that something was wrong because I heard a whistling sound, gunshots and immediately felt the bullet go through my skin,” the Republican candidate added.

In the message, he also thanked the U.S. Secret Service and all law enforcement agencies for their quick response to the shooting.

“Most importantly, I want to express my condolences to the family of the person who died in the demonstration and also to the family of another person who was seriously injured. It is unbelievable that such an act could happen in our country,” he said.

The Republican, who is set to face Joe Biden in the November election, said he has no information about the shooter, who died near the site of the event.

Trump ended his message: “God bless America!”
