Los Angeles – The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has asked citizens for help in finding a Hispanic teenager, born in Utah, who disappeared in Mexico while visiting her family last month.

Elizabeth “Ely” González, 14, was last seen on June 30 in Mexico City, where she had arrived 15 days earlier for vacation, the agency said in a press release.

The teenager allegedly left her relatives’ home alone to buy something when she disappeared, Gonzalez’s mother, Alma Soreque, told ABC4 television.

The FBI said there is surveillance footage that recorded the teenager getting into a taxi on the day she disappeared.

Steven Hymas, an FBI agent with the violent crimes squad in Salt Lake City, told KUTV that the young woman is believed to have been manipulated into getting into the taxi.

Federal investigators believe Gonzalez is still in Mexico and that there are people in the U.S. who have information that could help determine his whereabouts.

“They may have contacted friends or acquaintances or other family members who might know something that could help us,” the agent added.

Gonzalez was born in Ogden, Utah, is 1.55 meters tall, weighs 140 pounds (63 kilos) and has brown hair and eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the FBI at 801-579-1400 or the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
