Two people died on Saturday in a shooting during a rally for former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump, according to a report The Washington Post.

One of the dead is believed to be the shooter, said Richard Goldinger, the district attorney for Butler County, where the incident took place.

Donald Trump was apparently shot in the ear and was immediately removed from the scene by the Secret Service. He is out of danger and being evaluated by medical personnel, his campaign team said, as quoted by the Efe news agency.

The shooting occurred while Donald Trump was giving a speech in Butler, Pennsylvania. After the shots were heard, the Republican candidate was evacuated from the podium with blood visible on his face, allegedly after being grazed by a bullet in his right ear.

Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said the former president “is doing well and is receiving care at a local medical facility.”

The shooter was not present at Donald Trump’s rally, two officials told the news agency on condition of anonymity. The Associated Press.

They said the man who shot the former president, who has not been identified, was responded to by the U.S. Secret Service’s counterattack team. Another source told AP that police were able to recover an AR-style rifle at the scene.

According to the specifications provided by the agency, the shooter was 150 meters from the site where Donald Trump was testifying, so he could have hit his target.
