Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday downplayed the blunder made by his US counterpart Joe Biden, who presented him as if he were President Vladimir Putin.

Zelensky stressed that it was just a mistake that he can forget.

After meeting with Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris at Shannon Airport in Ireland, the two appeared before the press, as reported by the Efe news agency.

Zelensky stressed the US support for Ukraine and downplayed Biden’s mistake: “It’s a mistake. I think the US has given a lot of support to the Ukrainians. We can forget some mistakes, I really think so.”

The Ukrainian leader thanked the Irish people for their support during the war, especially for receiving a large number of Ukrainian refugees since the beginning of the Russian invasion.

How many refugees from Ukraine has Ireland received?

Ireland has welcomed more than 108,000 Ukrainian refugees and trained 500 soldiers in mine-clearing operations.

In a message on his Telegram channel, Volodymyr Zelensky explained that they discussed cooperation in demining and cybersecurity, as well as the need to increase global attention to children illegally deported by Russia.

Simon Harris, who greeted Zelensky with a hug as he left the plane, announced that he would visit Ukraine in the coming weeks. He also extended an invitation to the Ukrainian to make an official visit to Ireland and to speak before the Irish Parliament.

The two leaders explored a possible bilateral agreement in areas such as demining, energy, humanitarian assistance and food security. Zelensky was stopping in Ireland after participating in the summit commemorating NATO’s 75th anniversary in Washington, where Biden made the mistake that has raised questions about his mental clarity.
