The United States has handed over to Honduras a fugitive wanted for alleged “aggravated continuous rape of a minor,” an official in the capital said.
The extradited man was identified as Luberki Gabriel Trejo, the U.S. Embassy in X said.
The release of the criminal was coordinated with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Fugitive Control Security Alliance, and “this marks the 87th Honduran fugitive returned, highlighting the strong cooperation between the United States and Honduras,” the message states.
Likewise, the United States ambassador in Tegucigalpa, Laura Dogu, pointed out that security cooperation between the United States and Honduras is essential to protect the residents of both nations.
He added that the United States and Honduras continue to work together to combat crime and ensure justice.
“This joint effort strengthens our communities and demonstrates our mutual commitment to fighting impunity,” he concluded.
Between 2014 and 2024, Honduras extradited to the United States nearly 50 nationals accused of drug trafficking by the northern country.
Among those extradited are former president Juan Orlando Hernández, who in June was sentenced to 45 years in prison for drug trafficking, and former director of the National Police Juan Carlos Bonilla.
