With a penalty similar to the one he missed against Argentina at the 2024 Copa América, Enner Valencia did it again. But this time, a bad penalty call almost brought him worse consequences than remorse. A fan jumped out of the stands to try to attack him.

Valencia was responsible for executing a penalty in the 75th minute of a match between Internacional de Porto Alegre and Juventude for the Copa do Brasil. The execution was very similar to that of the penalty shootout between Ecuador and Argentina in the quarter-finals of the Copa América.

After his missed shot, a fan jumped out of the stands near one of the corner flags and ran towards the area where the striker was, all with the aim of physically attacking him.

The fan reached the area, but was stopped by rival players just two metres from where Valencia was standing with his arms akimbo. Before reaching that area, the Inter fan jumped and threw a punch while suspended in the air, but was just short of connecting with the player.

Regrettable!

The fan was restrained by members of the opposing team and even managed to exchange blows with a player during the scuffle. The VAR reviewed the play and determined that there was aggression by the footballer Alan Ruschel against the supporter. For this reason the defender was sent off. In the end, members of security ended up being admitted to take charge of the situation.

Later, the VAR also decided that the penalty would be awarded again for an alleged invasion of the area. After the unusual episode, Valencia took it again from the penalty spot and this time he did not forgive. It was of little use, as his team was eliminated 3-2 from the cup. Two defeats in less than a month in two different tournaments for the Ecuadorian.
