Concerns about flooding are easing after the New York tri-state area suffered a second straight day of widespread rainfall in the first half of Saturday.

The flood warning ended on Saturday afternoon as much of the area braced for heavy rain, but the bad weather was isolated so not everyone was affected by the morning showers.

So far this summer, total rainfall in the Big Apple has been four inches below the measured level. This is shown by a drought monitor which shows an ever-widening area of unusually dry ground.

Much of New Jersey falls into the “unusually dry” category and some areas are even experiencing moderate drought, NBC New York reported.

Although the showers this weekend are good for the region, the threat of flooding remains. When the ground is dry, it cannot absorb rain at the same rate as a moderately wet ground.

Once the rain clears the area, there will be no rain on Sunday and New Yorkers will return to a warm summer period.

Another heat wave is also expected to begin this Sunday and Monday for much of the tri-state area.

The silver lining: Temperatures (and humidity) will return to land late next week with highs returning to the 80s in time for next weekend.
