The European press was delighted with Spain’s fourth European Championship after a thrilling final against England. Goals from Nico Williams and Oyarzabal in the second half brought down the English team, which is once again on the verge of glory.

“Spain at the top of Europe with Williams and Oyarzabal. England, the curse continues,” headlines the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, which points out that “Spain is European champion for the fourth time (1964, 2008, 2012, 2024), while England is once again left wanting, losing the final as it did three years ago against Mancini’s Italy.”

La Roja’s superiority throughout the tournament was undisputed. Seven wins in seven matches, a beautiful game and a new generation of talents led by Williams, Yamal and Olmo are the keys to success.

“Invincible Armada”, “kings of Europe” and “the best football of all time” were some of the headlines that appeared in the Portuguese press.

“Spain is crowned champion with the best football in Europe,” wrote the newspaper Público, with a picture of the Spanish team. “The ‘party’ of the fourth title is about to end,” wrote the newspaper Jornal de Notícias.

A Bola opted for a photograph of the Roja and the message in large letters “kings of Europe”, claiming that “Spain was the best in the EURO, the best in the final and the best of all time”.

The British press, meanwhile, lamented the defeat and questioned the future of coach Gareth Southgate. England’s curse continues and they will have to wait to win their first European Championship since 1966.

The Times reported that Spain scored a late goal to “break England’s hearts in the final,” while The Guardian noted that Spain “crushed England’s dream of Euro 2024” and added that “if football is going home it is only because it belongs to Spain.”

Spain won its fourth European Championship and is now one of the great powers of world football. A title that an entire country is celebrating and that gives hope for a bright future for La Roja.

Ultimately, Euro 2024 has been a resounding success for Spain, which has proven to be the best team on the continent and has given the world a memorable football spectacle.
