After watching security camera video of himself shooting a woman outside a Brooklyn housing project, the suspect admitted to the killing and told authorities he killed her for butting in on an argument with another woman, prosecutors said.
Identified as Usamah Sidberry, 34, he told officers he was arguing with a woman outside NYCHA’s Albany Houses in Crown Heights shortly before midnight Thursday when the victim, Dyseem Jackson, intervened, court documents show.
The woman’s intrusion enraged the gunman, who ran into his apartment to grab a 9mm Smith and Wesson pistol before confronting Jackson a second time, the documents say and the Daily News reported.
The man’s tirade ended when he shot the victim once in the back before unloading three more bullets into the woman after midnight Friday, according to documents.
Authorities responded to reports of an assault in progress and found Jackson lying lifeless on the floor.
Officers caught up with Sidberry on Friday night. When detectives showed him surveillance footage obtained from the NYCHA complex that showed the gunman executing the victim, the suspect said, “That’s me,” according to the documents.
Sidberry was ordered held without bail as a precautionary measure against his arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court on charges of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
The defendant has two prior felony convictions and three prior misdemeanor convictions, prosecutors said.
NYPD officers arrested Sidberry in 2008 for involuntary manslaughter after the then-21-year-old suspect and a 19-year-old suspect allegedly killed a man at the Albany Houses in 2007, police said.
