Republican Party delegates gathered in Milwaukee for their national convention on Monday officially confirmed Donald Trump and JD Vance as their presidential and vice presidential nominees, respectively, saying they are the leadership America needs.

Republicans have expressed their intention to regain what they consider to be lost leadership.

Still reeling from the recent assassination attempt against Trump at a rally on Saturday, delegates from various states met to unanimously ratify his candidacy and that of his running mate, announced after weeks of speculation, Efe reported.

What do Republicans say about Donald Trump and JD Vance?

Texas delegate Jackson Carpenter told the news agency that the failed attempt on Trump’s life demonstrated the Republican candidate’s strength, which is needed to defeat Democratic President Joe Biden in November and lead the country.

“We need competent leadership. It is now clearer than ever that Donald Trump can dodge a bullet better than Joe Biden can climb a flight of stairs,” he said.

Virginia delegate Leon Benjamin said the combination of Donald Trump and JD Vance represents the leadership the country needs after four years of what he describes as a disastrous Biden administration.

“It is the right formula for the people, for the United States. The country needs strong leadership,” he added.

Ohio Senator JD Vance, 39, was selected by Donald Trump and the news was greeted with enthusiasm by delegates.

Former Republican Congressman Madison Cawthorn highlighted the support Vance will receive from voters, and expressed his belief that, unlike Kamala Harris, he will effectively carry out his duties.

Florida state congressman David Borrero believes he will attract undecided voters because of his youth and his representation of Ohio, a crucial state for the Republican victory in the White House.

Why would Donald Trump choose JD Vance?

Trump appears to have chosen Vance to secure victory in key Midwestern states such as Ohio. He is also confident of winning in states with large African-American populations, such as Georgia, and Latino populations, such as Nevada, especially after the assassination attempt on Trump.

Angel Cintrón, president of the Republican Party in Puerto Rico, admitted that Vance’s election surprised him, but he believes he will bring political balance to Trump’s candidacy and attract the voters needed to win.

Mississippi Delegate Jimmy Stevens expressed confidence that Trump and Vance will improve the economy and solve the fentanyl addiction crisis. “Trump is a true American patriot who wants to make this country better,” he concluded.
