Former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Monday announced Sen. J.D. Vance as his vice presidential nominee, ending months of speculation about who would be his running mate for the November election.

JD Vance is a young politician who will turn 40 next August. He is also a businessman and writer. If he wins the election, he would become the third youngest vice president in history, behind John Breckinridge (36 years old when he took office in 1857) and Richard Nixon (40 years and 11 days in 1953), according to NBC News.

“After much deliberation and reflection, and taking into account the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the most suitable person to assume the office of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” the Republican presidential candidate wrote in his Truth Social platform.

In the post, Trump highlighted Vance’s business profile.

“JD has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the Campaign, he will focus strongly on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American workers and farmers of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota and far beyond…”, added the former president.

In addition to his younger demeanor, which contrasts with the advanced age of President Joe Biden and Trump himself, Vance brings military experience to the Republican candidacy, as he is a Marine Corps veteran of the Iraq War.

Trump’s current vice presidential candidate was once a staunch critic of the former president, going so far as to call him the “American Hitler.” However, he has recently completely changed his stance on Trump, becoming a strong defender.
