Social Security uses beneficiaries’ birthdays to determine the day they will receive their payment.
The specific day of your birth influences whether you will receive your payment earlier or later in the month. However, the year or month of birth does not impact the payment date, only the day is what matters.
Additionally, the year you retire plays an important role.
The SSA classifies retirees into two main groups based on their retirement year. The year 1997 serves as a critical dividing line for these groups, determining different payment schedules.
How you will receive your next Social Security (SSA) payment
The next Social Security payment will be deposited into the accounts of thousands of beneficiaries on June 18, 2024.
If you have Direct Deposit activated, you can expect to receive your payment without any issues on this date.
For those who have not activated this method, payment will arrive in the following days by traditional mail, but rest assured that you will receive it.
To ensure you receive your Social Security payment on time, consider the following:
–Activate Direct Deposit to avoid delays.
–Keep track of your payment schedule based on your birthday.
–Understand the impact of your retirement year on your payment schedule.
Social Security payment schedule for July 2024
If your birthday falls between the 11th and the 20th of any month, you will receive your Social Security payment on the third Wednesday in July, which will be the 17th.
If your birthday falls between the 21st and 31st of any month, you will receive your Social Security payment on the fourth Wednesday in July, which will be the 24th.
How to check the status of your Social Security payment
Create or log in to your my Social Security account online.
Your account will display information such as the filing date, current status of the application, scheduled hearing date and time, and the location of the service office.
If you are unable to check your status online, you can call the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
