Mexican boxer Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz surprised all his fans by revealing that he is more than interested in getting a rematch against American Gervonta Davis and that everyone involved in both teams also want the same goal and thus achieve a historic confrontation between the two; despite this, he explained that the only problem is ‘Tank’s’ refusal to reach an agreement to see him in the ring again.
The fighter made these statements during an interview with Izquierdazo, where he explained that everything is ready to face Gervonta again in the ring. However, the American fighter has not wanted to accept it and this is what has delayed the long-awaited rematch from taking place.
“Sean Gibbons, who is my promoter, I am the fighter, Manny Pacquiao Promotions, Manny Pacquiao himself, who is the team, we want it. Al Haymon, from PBC, wants it and has said yes, Calvin Ford (Davis’ trainer) has said yes. So the only one who has not wanted it and has not accepted has been Tank himself,” Cruz said.
The confrontation between these two boxing figures took place in December 2021, when Pitbull Cruz challenged Gervonta Davis for the World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight title and despite the American winning by unanimous decision, the Mexican demonstrated a surprising level with which he avoided being knocked out; Since then, the Aztec has gained much more prominence in the competitive scene until recently lifting the WBA super lightweight title in 2024.
“It’s not up to us anymore, we have done our part to make it happen. It doesn’t depend on us, but on Tank’s team, also on my promoter, and whether the second part of that fight can take place,” added the Pitbull in his statements.
Cruz recently stated that he wants to achieve the unification of his titles in the super lightweight division to demonstrate that he is among the elite of this sport and is already working on reaching an agreement with the different champions of each of the organizations in this division.
