The Argentine national team won its 16th consecutive Copa América title in its history against Colombia this Sunday in Miami, thus revalidating the title won at the Maracaná against Brazil in 2021.

But beyond the trophy and the continental glory of being champions, the Argentine Football Association received a significant sum of money. This was a record for this edition of the Copa América, as Conmebol had increased the amount of the prize money.

For this cup, Conmebol designated $72 million dollars in prizes. Just for participating in the continental tournament, each of the 16 teams received $2 million dollars and the remaining $40 million dollars were distributed according to the objectives achieved.

In this regard, the eight teams that made it to the quarterfinals were given a prize of $2 million each. Fourth place was compensated with another $4 million, while third place received an additional $5 million.

The runner-up, in this case Colombia, took home an extra $7 million (on top of the $4 million it earned for advancing to the next round) for a total of $12 million in all.

In the case of champion Argentina, the Albiceleste team went home with $16 million in their pocket as a prize, in addition to continental glory and the Copa América trophy, which will be number 16 in their showcase.

This amount of prize money Argentina received is even double the amount it received in 2021 when it won the Copa América in Brazil. On that occasion, it only received $8 million dollars for the championship.

On the other hand, and as a comparison, at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, the Albiceleste ended up with $42 million dollars in prizes for winning the top event in world football.
