Legendary Croatian midfielder Luka Modric signed a one-year contract extension with Real Madrid on Wednesday, staying at the club until June 30, 2025.

Modric, 38, joined Real Madrid in 2012 from Tottenham Hotspur. In his 12 seasons as a Real Madrid player, he has become a legend at the club, winning a total of 26 titles, the most in the club’s history alongside Nacho Fernández.

“Real Madrid CF and Luka Modrić have agreed to extend the contract of our captain, who remains tied to the club until June 30, 2025,” reads the letter shared by the white club on its official website.

Among his most notable achievements are:

  • 6 Champions Leagues (one of only five players to have won it in history)
  • 5 Club World Cups
  • 4 European Super Cups
  • 4 Leagues
  • 2 King’s Cups
  • 5 Spanish Super Cups

At an individual level:

  • He won the Ballon d’Or in 2018
  • The Best Award for Best FIFA Player in 2018
  • UEFA Men’s Player of the Year 2018
  • Included in the FIFA FIFPro World XI on 6 occasions
  • Best Midfielder in the Champions League in 2018 and 2019
  • 2018 World Cup Golden Ball
  • Bronze Ball of the 2022 World Cup

Modric has made 178 appearances for the Croatian national team and has been a key part of the team’s achievements, including finishing runners-up in the World Cup in 2018 and third place in 2022.

Modric’s renewal is great news for Real Madrid, as it ensures the continuity of one of the best midfielders in the world. His experience and leadership will be fundamental for the team in the 2024/25 season.
