Former President Donald Trump has a big bet in his White House bid in his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump. His son Eric’s wife not only supports him as a family member, but also as co-chair of the Republican National Committee.

The television presenter and producer has devoted herself entirely to Trump’s campaign and, since March, with her new position within the party, she has been helping to put the RNC at the feet of her father-in-law.

The RNC controls the Republican Party’s electoral machinery and finances, and in her new role, Lara Trump has played a prominent role in the national convention, which has been gathering in Milwaukee since Monday through Thursday to formalize Trump’s candidacy for the White House as well as that of his “number two,” Ohio Senator JD Vance.

On the first day of the convention, Lara accompanied the New York tycoon to the podium where he appeared to greet his supporters since the gun attack he suffered last Saturday, in which he was wounded in one ear.

She was joined by her husband and Trump’s other children, Tiffany and Donald Trump Jr., and his fiancée, Kimberly Guilfoyle, supporting the former president at a time when he appeared vulnerable and restrained.

On Tuesday, Lara, the mother of a six-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl, gave her closing remarks at Fiserv Stadium, the epicenter of the Republican celebrations, where her opening remarks actually highlighted her family ties.

“Nothing prepares you as a daughter-in-law to see first-hand how someone tries to kill someone you love. Nothing prepares you to quickly grab the remote control so that your children do not witness something that will remain etched in their memory of their grandfather for the rest of their lives,” she told delegates.

Lara Trump has gained political prominence, particularly since Ivanka Trump, the former president’s second daughter, decided not to participate in her father’s new campaign, as well as her husband, Jared Kushner, after having been part of his government between 2017 and 2021.

Trump himself asked Lara to take on the role of co-chair of the RNC. She had already collaborated with him in previous campaigns, but this step forward seemed enormous to her. According to her, The New York Times recalls, she ended up accepting because “in life you have to do things that scare you.”

Before the former Republican president ran for president, Lara told the same outlet that neither she nor anyone else in the family was particularly interested in that world. However, since Trump took over the White House, that surname has become linked to the history of the United States.

Since then, the former president has led the voting intentions: 42.3% of voters say they will vote for him on November 5, 2.2 percentage points more than the president, Joe Biden, according to the average of polls carried out by the website FiveThirtyEight.

“Trump is a lion, he is fearless and that is what this country needs right now. (…) No one can deny that we were better off when he was in power. When I look at him I see a wonderful father, father-in-law and grandfather. A man who has sacrificed for his family and who has truly sacrificed for his country,” concluded Lara Trump.
