Actress Shannen Doherty, who passed away on July 13 at the age of 53 after losing a long battle with cancer, previously stated in several of her interviews that she had unfinished business, however, she decided to finish some of these things before her death, as was the case of her divorce from Kurt Iswarienko, her only husband.

Shannen Doherty’s wish that she never got to fulfill

The end of the actress, who starred in “Beverly Hills 90210,” the series that brought her to international stardom, left a huge void among fans of the series. The truth is that, days before leaving this earthly plane, she agreed to settle the divorce with her ex-husband, which was delayed for several months due to a legal dispute in which he would be forced to send her maintenance.

Kurt Iswarienko and Shannen Doherty got married in 2011, when they considered themselves “older” enough to do so. In 2015, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and that was the beginning of her ordeal. After a mastectomy, she only had preventive check-ups, but in 2019 the disease came back stronger and advanced to stage 4, in a very aggressive way. In the midst of this debacle in her health, in 2023 she separated from Iswarienko.

The dispute between the two was based on Doherty’s claim for spousal support, so the trial was extended after their separation. In different interviews with the press, the actress claimed that her ex was waiting for her to die, in order to avoid having to send her money.

“He was allowed to drag out our divorce in the hopes that I would die before he had to pay me,” the actress once said. However, Iswarienko’s lawyer, Katherine Heersema, responded: “He wants what is best for Shannen and wants them both to be able to put this case behind them and move on.”

However, on July 12, the day before his death, he signed the legal papers, renouncing this request. On the 13th, after the sad news of his death, it was Iswarienko who sealed the document with his signature.

According to People, one part of the document read: “The parties have entered into a written agreement concerning their property and their marital or domestic partnership rights, including support, the original of which is being or has been filed with the court.”

According to the filing obtained by People, the actress signed a document on July 12 to “waive spousal support.” She also agreed to a “default or uncontested dissolution” of her marriage, meaning the two finalized their divorce “out of court.”
