The forward and main figure of the Diablos Rojos del Toluca, Alexis Vega, regretted the dismissal of the technical director Jaime Lozano from the Mexican national team by the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) after the team ended up being eliminated in the Group Stage of the Copa América 2024 that took place in the United States after suffering a defeat against Venezuela, a draw against Ecuador and just a narrow victory against Jamaica.

The striker made these statements during an interview on the field after his team’s 3-0 victory over Mazatlán FC to earn three points that currently keep them in third place in the Liga MX Apertura 2024 tournament with a total of seven points and with their sights set on the Liguilla.

“We know that these are decisions that are not made by us but by the people at the top. All the players are hurt that Jaime is no longer with us. He is a coach that we really liked, he had won a medal with the national team and the Gold Cup,” said Alexis Vega, who believes that it represents a hard blow for all the members of the squad.

“He was a coach we highly valued and his departure hurts us, but this continues. He knows that we will always send him the best of success. This change will do him good and he said it, he will be the number 1 fan of the team, he will continue supporting us and it is up to us to do our job whoever the coach is and we will support him in the same way we did with Jaime and to give our best version of ourselves, each one of us,” added Vega.

The attacker also spoke about the upcoming match against Máquina Cruz Azul (the team that is leading the standings) by stating that this gives them a boost to be the ones in charge of giving them their first defeat of the season.

“I think it’s an important parameter for both teams, it’s a show of authority to leave with a victory and then we travel, and well, what better than to leave with 10 points to the United States,” he concluded.
