Although Argentina managed to lift its second consecutive Copa America in the United States, not everything was rosy, especially for its captain Lionel Messi, who suffered a serious ankle injury in the final against Colombia.

That is why the Argentine will take a while to return to Inter Miami due to this serious injury. It will keep him out for at least a couple of weeks, missing some of his club’s matches in the MLS.

Inter Miami coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino recently gave an update on the 37-year-old star’s injury and stated that they do not want to take any risks, so they will take it very slowly.

“Leo, as you already know, the club’s medical report came out and that’s the information. In terms of timing, he will surely be evaluated week by week and we will see how his recovery is without running any kind of risk. […] “I don’t want to make any kind of speculation because the doctors will handle that with him,” Martino said.

Martino also said that the club has already made its own medical report on Messi’s injury. However, he is not the specialist to report it.

“The medical report that we wanted to be released by the club has already been issued and we will see. It would not be right for me to speculate from my position as coach because I could say anything,” explained the Argentine.

For now, no further details are known about the Argentine captain’s injury. And although it was not serious, just a sprain, it is estimated that Messi will be out of action for at least six weeks.
