Shakira’s performance during halftime of the 2024 Copa América final, held on July 14 in Miami, continues to generate a large number of comments and reactions on social media. After dozens of users criticized various aspects of her show, such as the alleged use of playback, now a large number of Argentine Internet users have accused the Colombian, for a post, of allegedly “disparaging” the Argentine national team.
Through her official Instagram account, the singer of “Día de Enero” shared a short clip of her performance of the song “Puntería,” the official song of the sporting event, during her performance at the Hard Rock Stadium.
In addition to the video, the South American added a brief message in which she thanked her followers and mentioned the Colombian section and the rest of the participating footballers: “Thank you for allowing me to accompany you at this event with my team and the greats of Latin American football.”
However, far from creating “unity” among South American fans, Shakira’s comment generated a wave of criticism towards the businesswoman for allegedly disregarding the Argentine national team, the champion of the tournament, in addition to not being neutral.
Argentines attack Shakira
In the same Colombian post, Argentine users made comments such as: “And congratulations to Argentina, you forgot,” “You could congratulate the country that always welcomes you with love,” among others.
Similarly, and as part of the “attack”, messages were also shared in which the Latin artist was “demanded” for having resorted to playback: “It is disrespectful that she does playback and on top of that, that she encourages Colombia. If she was hired, she should be neutral”, “First, playback is horrible, and second, Colombia”, among many others.
Despite the series of accusations, the singer was also “supported” by another large group of fans, who mentioned that Shakira “did her job” because it was not “about” her show, but that she was merely a guest.
At the same sporting event, other Colombian music stars such as Karol G, who performed the Colombian national anthem, her current partner Feid, Maluma, Juanes, among others, were also present thanks to a series of viral videos and photographs that captured their presence in various boxes in the stadium.
Following her performance at the 2024 Copa América, Shakira will continue her preparation for her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour,” which will begin in November in the United States and end a month later. The South American singer is expected to announce dates for her performances in Latin America, Europe, and the rest of the world in the coming weeks.
