Last Wednesday, the 2024 Emmy Awards announced the nominees who will be awarded a statuette for their work in a few months. Now, Sofia Vergara has sent a message of thanks for being part of the ‘Leading Actress in a Miniseries’ category.
The prominent Colombian actress mentioned that it took a decade and a half to be able to do the work that they have been enjoying since January: “Griselda was my first dramatic role and it took us 15 years to bring it to life. I am incredibly grateful to everyone who was part of this series. I could never have done this without my director Andrés Baiz, my co-star @el_guerra, @ericnewmanofficial and the entire creative team, my partner and producer @luisbalaguer1, @tedsarandos, @belabaj.”
Vergara added that she never thought the series would become as successful as it has been so far: “Your team at @Netflix, and all the incredible cast and crew. I never dreamed that after ‘Modern Family’ I would be a part of something as special as ‘Griselda.’ I am honored to be recognized alongside Jodi, Brie, Juno and Naomi, incredible women who gave us incredible television this year. Thank you to the Television Academy for this incredible honor.”
The miniseries follows the life of notorious Colombian criminal Griselda Blanco, nicknamed the “Black Widow.” Vergara has been praised for her portrayal of the iconic character, showcasing her versatility as an actress.
The nomination of the Colombian actress is a great step in the representation of the Hispanic community in the entertainment industry, and shows that talent and dedication can break barriers and open doors to new achievements. It is certainly exciting to see Sofia Vergara shine at the awards ceremony and it is hoped that this is just the beginning of an even more successful and outstanding career for her.
The Emmy Awards will be held on September 15 in Los Angeles, and Vergara will compete against other leading actresses in the category. However, for many fans and critics, her performance has already made her worthy of this recognition.
