Mexican-American boxer Andy Ruiz has said he would like to fight fellow Mexican David Benavidez in the heavyweight division, considering that he has quickly become one of the most highly-rated boxers today due to his incredible fighting ability and also to really see what he is made of.

These statements were made by Ruiz to various media outlets on the occasion of the fight that Benavídez starred in at 175 pounds to defeat Oleksandr Gvozdyk by unanimous decision and thus become the interim champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC) after leaving the 168 pounds; despite the fact that this was not one of the best performances in Benavídez’s career, he did affirm that he looked clearly powerful against his rival to achieve victory.

Ruiz also said that Benavídez is still a young fighter who will be testing himself at 175 pounds and invited him to continue climbing the divisions as long as he can stay healthy to avoid injuries that do not affect his professional career.

“I think David (Benavidez) can do anything, because he is big, he is strong. His last fight was his first fight at that weight, but it takes time. He is very young. And if (Benavidez) goes up to heavyweight, I hope he gives me the opportunity to fight him,” said the Mexican-American fighter.

Finally, Andy Ruiz said that David Benavídez is quite tall, being 1.88 meters tall; despite that, he said that he can slowly gain weight until he reaches the heavyweights in order to have a fight between them.

“I think so (his body is capable of moving up to the heavyweight division). In his normal life, I think he should be around 200 pounds. So I think he feels strong, but he is a very talented guy,” concluded the boxer.
