In his first public appearance since the assassination attempt a week ago, Donald Trump ridiculed his rival, President Joe Biden, in a speech in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Trump, wearing a light bandage on his ear affected by the attack, was greeted enthusiastically by a cheering crowd.

During the event, he mocked Biden’s “weakness,” describing the Republican as a threat to democracy. “Last week, I got shot for democracy,” Trump said.

The former president proposed a poll to determine which Democratic candidate would be best suited to face the Republicans. The boos dominated the mention of Vice President Kamala Harris. “I don’t think we need to look any further,” the former president said with irony.

Trump also mocked the Democratic Party’s efforts to replace Biden, saying they are frantically trying to overturn the primary results to get the president off the ballot.

“The party has no idea who its candidate is,” he said.

The former president took the opportunity to criticize Joe Biden’s performance in the final debate in June, which intensified pressure for him to drop out of the presidential race. “Who won the debate, Biden or Trump?” Trump asked, generating cheers for his name.

Trump described his opponent as “a sick, weak, pathetic man” who is unfit to run for office. He also suggested that voting for Biden could indirectly be a vote for Harris, and reiterated his baseless claims of voter fraud in the previous election.

In a relaxed tone, he returned to key themes of his campaign, such as controlling illegal immigration and implementing “additional tax cuts.” He reiterated the points he had highlighted in his acceptance speech for the Republican nomination.
