Donald Trump’s physician, Dr. Ronny Jackson, reported on Saturday that the gunshot wound the former president suffered in an assassination attempt a week ago is progressing favorably.
The wound, located on the upper part of the right ear, measures two centimeters and is in the process of healing.
In a letter to Congress, Jackson described how the bullet came within six millimetres of entering Trump’s head, striking the top of his right ear.
“It’s an absolute miracle he wasn’t killed,” Jackson said.
The impact of the bullet produced a wound two centimetres wide that extended to the cartilaginous surface of the ear, causing significant bleeding and noticeable swelling in the entire upper part of the ear, Efe reports.
The swelling has since subsided and the wound has begun to heal properly, although intermittent bleeding is still observed, requiring the placement of a bandage.
Jackson checked on the former president on Saturday after a 20-year-old man shot him with an assault weapon while he was speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The attacker was shot dead immediately after the attack.
Following the incident, Jackson decided to travel to Bedminster, New Jersey, to personally assess Trump’s condition and offer his assistance. He has since accompanied the former president, including during last week’s Republican convention, where Trump appeared in public with a bandage on his ear for the first time.
Medical staff at Memorial Hospital in Butler initially treated Donald Trump, providing a thorough evaluation that included a CT scan of his head to check for possible additional injuries. Further evaluations, including a full hearing exam, are planned as deemed necessary by Jackson.
