There are just six days left until the Olympic torch is lit in Paris and the Olympic Games begin. The opening ceremony in the French capital is scheduled to begin at around 7:30 p.m. local time.

However, it was recently reported that the opening could be affected due to a strike planned for the same day in Paris.

the French chain TF1 The Paris performing artists’ union (CGT) is threatening to strike on the opening day to demand equal treatment for artists who will be performing at the event.

According to the French media, the union intends to strike to denounce “flagrant inequalities in treatment” between the artists who will participate in this opening ceremony. “We regret to announce the strike notice for the show on July 26 and for the upcoming rehearsals and the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games on August 28,” the union said.

The union also claims that it has already warned Paname24, the company in charge of organizing the ceremony, on several occasions that the collective agreement was not being complied with when hiring the artists.

“Around 250 to 300 dancers have been hired under shameful conditions, without pay or without knowing the amount of the transfer and their rights,” the CGT denounces.

On the other hand, they claim that there are great inequalities in salaries. Some will earn only about $62, while others receive $1,650 for their participation in the ceremony.

On the other hand, the Paris Olympic Games organisation points out that the working conditions of workers are one of the priorities of the Olympic event and assures that they have confirmed that “Paname 24 complies with the law by applying the collective agreements applicable to the profession of dancer”.
