The United States national team fired Gregg Berhalter as head coach shortly after the 2024 Copa América ended. This left the USMNT position open and they are already starting to look for replacements for the bench.

One of the options being considered by US Soccer to take over as head coach of the Stars and Stripes team for the 2026 World Cup in the United States is French legend Thierry Henry.

This information was reported by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano in his podcast Here We Go. And it seems that the 1998 World Cup winner with France has made it onto a list of candidates that also includes the Argentine Mauricio Pochettino and the British Gareth Southgate.

Henry’s experience as a manager has been somewhat limited. He began his career as a youth coach at Arsenal and from 2016 to 2018 he was Roberto Martinez’s assistant at the Belgium national team.

Between October 2018 and January 2019, he took charge of 20 Monaco matches in Ligue 1. Although the results were not good, as he finished with a record of 11 defeats, four draws and five wins.

In November 2019, he landed in the MLS as coach of Montreal, where he again left with a negative record of 16 losses, four draws and nine wins in 29 matches.

Henry is currently managing the French Olympic team that will compete in the Games in Paris. This would be the first problem that the USMNT would have if they wanted to acquire the services of the former footballer. They would have to wait until his participation in the sporting event is over.
