Dominican baseball player Adrian Beltre finally managed to be inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame this Sunday in recognition of an impressive career, but his compatriot David Ortiz played a very heavy joke on him that bothered the player several times during his career.

Beltré, who last January became the second Latino to be inducted with the highest number of votes in history (95.1%) after the immaculate Mariano Rivera, was present at the ceremony with an emotional speech in which he recalled his time as a baseball player, but before going up on stage, Ortiz appeared to touch his head and infuriate the Texas Rangers legend.

Unseen, the former Boston designated hitter approached the podium and passed his hand over the 45-year-old player’s bald head. The 45-year-old looked back in dissatisfaction with the action but did not react angrily as he usually did in Major League games.

After the incident, Beltré addressed his fellow Dominicans, thanking them for the support he received during his 21 seasons.

“Thank you to the Latino community. Thank you to my in-laws for their help and support. Thank you to my Dominican Republic for the support I have had. I will always be proud to be Dominican,” Beltré began.

Beltré, the 19th Latino to enter Cooperstown and the fifth Dominican to do so after Juan Marichal, Pedro Martínez, Vladimir Guerrero and David Ortiz, achieved the feat after a career that, among others, included 3,166 hits, 1,524 runs scored, 1,707 RBIs, 477 home runs and an impressive lifetime on-base percentage of .819, in addition to adding five Gold Gloves, two Platinum Gloves, four Silver Bats and four appearances in the All-Star Game.
