The technical director of the Pumas de la UNAM, Gustavo Lema, surprised all the feline fans by not being surprised by the undefeated record that the team has in these first four days that marked the start of the Apertura 2024 tournament of the Liga MX after the victory they recorded this weekend against the Tuzos del Pachuca 2-0 to be able to place themselves in second position in the Aztec championship with a total of 10 points.

These statements were made by the strategist during the press conference following his third victory of the campaign and in which he also recognized the dedication of each of the players on the squad to be able to have this positive start that allows them to dream of qualifying for the Liguilla and have their sights set on being able to become champions of the 2024 Apertura tournament of the Liga MX.

“A great job of scouting was done, of the places that needed to be reinforced, of the young players we have, of the formation of the squad. Today is a sign that we had a very eventful week with the absences of Licha, Memo, and then Leo’s injury, that’s why you need a squad and the work that was done was to build it,” he said.

“I cannot say that I am surprised, I am happy or calm that what was envisioned was done, sometimes it does not happen, but today it is happening, that calmness, but not at all surprised,” Lema added in his statements.

Finally, Gustavo Lema spoke about Leo Suárez’s injury, who had to leave the field in the first 10 minutes of the match and it was confirmed that he will not be present in the felines’ debut in the Leagues Cup against Austin FC in order to give him the necessary recovery time so that he can return to action as soon as possible.

“In most cases it is fatigue, Caicedo arrived just in time, Ruvalcaba, and I can mention a few others, there was a series of complicated matches and now you have a match in 5 days,” he stressed.

“Leo worries us a little because it seemed to be something serious and now we are optimistic that it is something a little milder, but it is unlikely that he will be able to play at least in the next game. We will see the final diagnosis and then we will evaluate,” concluded the coach of the Pumas de la UNAM.
