US Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday secured her nomination as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate for the November election, Congressman Robert Garcia of California announced.

“California just voted unanimously to nominate Kamala Harris for president. Our delegates have pushed the vice president beyond the number needed to secure our nomination for the convention,” Garcia posted on X.

To win the nomination in the first round, a candidate needs the support of at least 1,976 delegates, out of a total of 4,000, Efe reports.

These pledges of support from delegates symbolize an endorsement of Harris, although it is possible that they will change their minds before the vote in August.

Harris will not officially be the party’s presidential nominee until delegates formally vote in a virtual roll call, scheduled to conclude on Aug. 7.

The vice president, who announced her candidacy after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race, has emerged as the party’s front-runner.

California just voted unanimously to nominate our very own @KamalaHarris for President. Our delegates have put the VP over the required number she needs to be our nominee going into convention!

He has the backing of Biden, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and every Democratic governor in the country, some of whom have also been mentioned as possible candidates.

However, there could be other candidates who gather the nomination signatures of at least 300 delegates, but no more than 50 from a single state.

According to party officials, if a single candidate, likely Harris, meets the 300-signature threshold, virtual voting could take place as early as August 1. If there are multiple candidates, voting would take place a few days later, but before August 7.

If the nomination is confirmed in early August, the Democratic convention in Chicago on August 19 will be largely ceremonial.

While MAGA extremists continue to push for Project 2025, President Biden, Vice President Harris, and House Democrats are fighting to lower costs of prescription drugs, expand affordable housing, and protect women’s rights. We will never stop working for the American people.
