Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance criticized current Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, accusing her of lying about President Joe Biden’s health and not showing enough love for the country.

Vance, who was named former President Donald Trump’s running mate last week, chose Middletown, Ohio, for his first solo rally on Monday.

In his speech, Efe news agency reported, he questioned Harris’ appreciation for the history of the United States and her gratitude toward the country.

“When Kamala Harris talks about the history of this country, she does so with condemnation rather than appreciation. Not everything is perfect and it never will be, but if you’re going to lead this country, you should be grateful. I’ve never felt she is,” Vance said.

The 39-year-old Republican candidate also accused Harris and the Democratic leadership of hiding Biden’s deteriorating health, as Biden gave up seeking re-election following internal and external pressure.

“Kamala Harris lied about this. My Democratic colleagues in the Senate lied about this, as did the media. They all knew Biden couldn’t do the job, but they kept quiet for three years until he became a political liability. That’s no way to run a party. It’s an insult to voters,” he said.

In addition, JD Vance promised that, together with Trump, he will work hard to secure votes in the November 5 elections. “We are going to fight for every worker in this country,” he said.

The vice presidential candidate highlighted his humble origins and his commitment to the underprivileged.

His speech reflected Trump’s anti-immigrant and patriotic rhetoric: “We are going to close the border. We are going to put American citizens first because that is what Americans expect from us. It is about common sense,” he concluded.
