Inter Miami stars Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez were officially absent Monday from the MLS All-Star Game, which will see the team of the best players in Liga MX face off on Wednesday.

In a brief statement, MLS explained that Messi and Suárez would not be in the starting lineup due to various injuries that the attacking duo suffered in the final of the 2024 Copa América, which was played in the United States.

In the case of the number 10 of the Argentine national team, he continues to have discomfort in his right foot due to his ankle injury in the final of the tournament against Colombia and, in fact, this Monday he was seen with a protective splint during a short vacation where he shared with his wife Antonela Roccuzzo.

For his part, Suarez, who was also present during Messi’s trip to the beach, is suffering from discomfort in his left knee after having played the full 90 minutes last Saturday during Inter Miami’s 2-1 victory over Chicago Fire.

Suárez’s problems were also evident during the last Copa América, playing just 15 minutes in the group stage and only seeing action in the closing stages of the semi-final match against Colombia and in the third-place match against Canada, where he ended up scoring to make it 2-2.

Despite the notable absences of Messi and Suárez, other stars of the League such as Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, teammates at Inter Miami, Riqui Puig (Los Angeles Galaxy) or the Spaniard Juan Camilo “Cucho Hernández” (Columbus Crew), will participate in the event.

All of them will be led by French coach Wilfried Nancy, in a duel that will be played at Lower.com Field in Columbus, with capacity for just over 20,000 spectators.
