The 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline is just over a week away, and teams are already starting to have discussions to finalize trades before July 30.

One of the trades that could happen this week, according to a report by Jon Heyman, is that of the Dominican player of the Toronto Blue Jays Vladimir Guerrero Jr. who, according to information, the Canadian franchise would be in contact with the Seattle Mariners for his transfer.

The Blue Jays are a long way from making the playoffs this year. They are actually last in the American League East, while the Mariners are neck and neck with the Houston Astros for the lead in the West.

That’s why the Seattle team would look to reinforce its roster’s offense, especially on offense, in order to try to win the Western Division for the first time in 23 seasons.

Currently, Guerrero Jr., at 25 years old, has a contract with the Blue Jays until the end of the 2025 season. In addition, for his next and final season of contract, he will also enter into salary arbitration. The Dominican currently earns $19.9 million per season.

Guerrero has had a good performance so far this season with 16 home runs, a .292 average and an OPS of .834. Which even earned him a call to the All-Star Game.

According to Heyman, both franchises are still in contact to negotiate a trade. However, other sources, such as Jean Paul Morosi, claim that the Blue Jays have notified interested teams that they will not make trades with players who have contracts beyond 2024.

For now, we just have to wait and see how this final week of trades before the deadline plays out and whether Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will ultimately wear a new uniform in the Major Leagues.
