One of the key pieces of the New York Mets in recent seasons has been Pete Alonso. The first baseman is undoubtedly the offensive engine of the metropolitan team, which is currently fighting for a place in the playoffs.

Alonso will be a free agent after the current Major League season ends. Rumors have begun to circulate regarding a possible move by the Mets to try to get some credit by trading Pete Alonso before the deadline.

However, the Mets’ hot streak over the past month, which has put them in the running for the National League wild card, seems to rule out the idea that the Queens team could move Alonso.

And the most recent information published by the newspaper The Athletic The Mets have reportedly told teams interested in Alonso that they are unlikely to move the slugger before the trade deadline.

This suggests that the team managed by Carlos Mendoza is confident that they can secure a place in the playoffs. Therefore, they would need Alonso on the team.

On the other hand, it could suggest that the Mets would have an extension offer for Alonso by the end of the season. Which has been valued, according to some experts, at around $180 million dollars in exchange for seven seasons.

For now, the Mets’ need is clear and it seems they don’t intend to let go of Alonso’s offensive production, which so far stands at 19 home runs and 51 RBIs for a .241 average.
