Idriss Cherif El Farissy, a young worker for the Papa John’s chain, was shot in the head outside his home in the Bronx (NYC) while he was planning to travel soon to the Dominican Republic on vacation with his wife.

The victim was 28 years old, a native of Morocco, and spoke several languages, including Spanish. He was also an exemplary worker who won the “employee of the month” award twice in a short period of time, said his relatives, who have no idea who wanted to kill him.

El Farissy was fatally shot in the head early yesterday morning during an apparent robbery outside his home, according to police sources. He had just parked his car outside his apartment on East 176th St in Crotona Park East after his delivery shift when he was attacked by the gunman just before 3 a.m., police reported. New York Post.

“I heard the gunshots and then the screams. I heard four or five shots around 3 a.m.,” said a neighbor who only identified himself as Joe. “He was backing away. I think he was coming home from work… He didn’t even have a chance to open the door. When I came out, the wife was there and the police were trying to revive him on the sidewalk.”

El Farissy was pronounced dead at the scene. The gunman checked his pockets before fleeing, according to sources. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and fled on a bicycle, police said.

He had been working at the pizzeria for about 8 months, since Thanksgiving. According to his co-worker Leslie Pozo, he was called in to work the closing shift because they were short a driver.

During his brief tenure there, he had already won the “employee of the month” award twice, Pozo said. “I don’t understand this kind of violence toward someone who had no problem with anyone… This was truly an act of pure violence. He had no problem with anyone.” Farissy “had a beautiful wife whom he loved” and was planning to go on vacation with her to the Dominican Republic in two weeks.

Young people are protagonists in New York’s gun violence as both victims and perpetrators, with shootings and knife attacks in streets, homes, schools, public transportation and businesses. In many cases, people are hit by stray bullets in the midst of territorial clashes between gangs.

The day before, on Monday, also in the Bronx, two men were injured in a mid-afternoon shooting and the hail of bullets also pierced the window of an MTA bus full of passengers.
