As part of the celebration of the Premios Juventud 2024, which will take place on July 25 in the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Shakira launched a powerful message of self-improvement in which she revealed part of her beginnings as an artist and the mockery she received for her voice when she was a child.
Through a video posted on the official Instagram account of the awards that recognize the greatest exponents of Latin music, the interpreter of “Día de Enero” shared a message in which she spoke about how the “no” motivated her to continue forward.
There are many people who have told me no. When I was little, for example, they made fun of my voice. I think you always have to be very connected to what you want to do and believe in yourself.”
Shakira recognizes the role of parents in achieving goals
In the same video, and without going into details regarding the teasing she received as a child, the businesswoman also mentioned that parental support is vital to achieving any type of dream.
“Especially if your parents believe in you, that is the ultimate vote of confidence. But I did have a lot of people who didn’t have the faith I needed at key moments, but my parents were always there.”
Finally, and as a way of showing that criticism and accusations should only become an incentive to continue forward, Shakira “thanked” all the people who said “no” to her at some point: “Greetings to all the people who said no to me because that has been the motivation to be where we are today.”
After the video was published, dozens of the singer’s followers reacted to her words through messages in which they encouraged the actions of the interpreter of “Waka Waka”, “her humility is where she is”, “that’s right, no’s are used to shut mouths”, “now she is the queen of Latin music”, among others.
Despite all of the above, Gerard Piqué’s ex-partner became the target of criticism after her most recent performance at the 2024 Copa América final, held on July 14 in the city of Miami. According to dozens of users, the South American singer gave a show with major deficiencies such as the use of playback, the poor production behind the concert as well as the performance of the Latin artist herself.
Similarly, and after her performance, Shakira was attacked by Argentine fans for allegedly dissing the Argentine national team, the champion of the competition, in her posts on social media.
