An Aurora, Illinois woman named Antoinette “Toni” Green won the $1 million jackpot on a scratch-off lottery ticket.
Green, who purchased the winning ticket at Ruby’s Liquor store, said he will donate $100,000 of his winnings to friends and family as a gesture of gratitude.
Green commented: “When I was blessed with this award, I knew I was finally in a position to give back and help my friends and family.”
Ruby’s Liquor owner Anup Singh confirmed that Green has been a frequent winner at her store, but this is the first time she has won such a significant sum.
Additionally, Ruby’s Liquor will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Green, who has worked as a school bus driver and medical assistant, said her first instinct was to think about how she could help others with her award.
One example of his generosity was when he recently paid for gas for a young woman who could only afford a gallon, she said.
This prize is one of more than 36 million winning tickets sold so far in 2024 in Illinois. In total, players have won more than $926 million in prizes this year.
