In partnership with the Institut Ramon Llull, Catalan Sounds on Tour will bring a vibrant showcase of Catalan music to the heart of Central Park as part of the Summerstage festival this Sunday, July 28.

The musical initiative offers Catalan artists the chance to perform on internationally renowned stages. Among this year’s participants are Sidonie, a Barcelona-based psych-pop trio known for songs that effortlessly blend Indian music, surrealism and rock. After more than 25 years together, their latest LP, Marc, Axel and Jes, strips their sound back to its roots, packed with energising two-and-a-half-minute tracks that capture the healing power of a great rock record.

The Balkan Paradise Orchestra is an all-female ensemble of wind and percussion players that takes the spirit of the Balkans and infuses it with various rhythms and traditions from around the world. Their new album, Nectar, explores the world of bees, dealing with themes of travel, teamwork, and personal and collective effort.

Another guest artist will be self-taught composer and multi-instrumentalist Lau Noah, who has been breaking hearts and turning heads with her voice and guitar in New York since 2014, but became known in 2019 with her debut on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series, becoming the first Catalan artist to do so.

Also taking the stage will be DJ Turmix, a Catalan resident in New York, who will be playing disco, house and underground rhythms, from the opening of doors at 5:00 pm.

The event is a unique opportunity to experience the rich and diverse Catalan music scene in the city. Free. From 6:00 to 10:00 pm, at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park. More information: https://cityparksfoundation.org.
