Luis Santiago, a 55-year-old driver, died dramatically when his truck exploded after crashing on a highway in Clifton, New Jersey.
The crash between the truck and a New Jersey Transit bus packed with passengers occurred in the eastbound lanes of Route 3 on Monday around 9 a.m. Police yesterday identified Santiago, a resident of Linden, Union County, as the sole victim.
Authorities say the Brenntag truck, which was loaded with flammable, corrosive and nontoxic materials, collided with the bus carrying 29 people. Miraculously, no other casualties were reported.
Parts of the truck were thrown into the air as flames spread across the road and into neighboring backyards, he described. ABC News. At one point all lanes of the highway were closed as fire crews worked to extinguish the flames.
