For the first time in the history of these matches, Liga MX defeated MLS in the All Star Game with a 4-1 win in a fun match that was a real spectacle for fans. It took three editions for the Mexican stars to raise Aztec football to the top.
The match was exciting from start to finish. There were no minutes of study. The first 15 minutes of play had not even been exceeded and Liga MX already dealt the first blow with a cross from Jonathan dos Santos on the right that was headed in by Germán Berterame, the Argentine striker for Rayados, leaving Swiss goalkeeper Roman Bürki with no chance.
Just one minute later, the equalizer came. Uruguayan Diego Rossi equalized in a play similar to the goal in Liga MX. Play on the right wing, pass from Sergio Busquets and diagonal shot in the half moon by Colombian Juan “Cucho” Hernández. From outside the area, Luis Malagón could do little.
The first half ended with a goal from the locker room. At 41′, Liga MX went ahead on the scoreboard with a goal from Moroccan Oussama Idrissi, a Pachuca player, who received the ball outside the area and fired a right-footed shot that went in through the lower right corner. André Jardine’s team went into the lead.
Second half worthy of stars
The MLS stars wanted to remain undefeated and win their fourth consecutive game. Liga MX won 2-1, but the pressure was relentless and Malagón’s goal was increasingly under siege. The Virgin appeared to the Mexicans in the form of César “Chino” Huerta.
Thanks to his combination with Brazilian Gustavo Ferrareis, Juan Brunetta ended up in the net. The Tigres player only had to push it in with his leg after the Puebla man’s header made it 3-1 in the 68th minute.
Minute 70 and in the blink of an eye, Liga MX went from suffering a possible tie to a thrashing. All thanks to a through ball that another Argentine, Maxi Meza, received to finish the match and silence Lower.com Field in Columbus.
Brunetta was named the MVP of the match thanks to his performance that helped give Liga MX its first ever victory after two losses in the All Star Game. Now, both tournaments will continue the schedule with the Leagues Cup this Friday.
