Winston Nguyen, a 37-year-old math teacher in Brooklyn, New York, has been charged with posing as a teenager and asking students to send him nude photos and videos on social media, prosecutors say.

Nguyen, a Harlem (NYC) resident, won the popular television quiz show ‘Jeopardy’ in 2014, according to TMZ. He has now been charged with using a minor in a sexual performance, promoting a sexual performance by a minor and disseminating indecent material to minors, among other charges in an alleged predatory scheme that lasted nearly two years. While working at the posh private school Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn Heights, Nguyen used Snapchat to engage in conversations in 11 separate incidents with children beginning in October 2022, according to the lawsuit. Daily News.

He was arrested in front of students last month, he posted yesterday The New York Times. Nguyen also has a criminal record: in 2018, he pleaded guilty to stealing more than $300,000 from an elderly couple he was supposed to care for, a 96-year-old blind man and his 92-year-old wife. He was sentenced to six months in jail and five years of probation.

He is now alleged to have attacked at least five girls and one boy. The victims were students at Saint Ann’s School, Poly Prep Country Day School, Berkeley Carroll School and Packer Collegiate Institute. Prosecutors believe there are other minors who were victimized by Nguyen.

In the first four attacks on law enforcement’s radar, under the username hunterkristoff he allegedly sent a 14-year-old boy a video of a naked minor and then asked him to send him sexual images. Investigators later determined that the minor who recorded the videos is 16 years old and lives in a different state in the country.

Under the same fake username, Nguyen apparently solicited nude photos and virtual sexual performances from children between the ages of 13 and 15, according to the indictment.

“The fact that he was a teacher and a trusted figure among students makes these allegations even more troubling,” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a statement. “We will now seek to hold him accountable and continue to work diligently to protect children from sexual exploitation.”

The prosecutor’s office is asking anyone with more information about Nguyen or the case to email ReportSNAPCHATImages@brooklynda.org.

All charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) has been warning since 2020 about an increase in child pornography cases due to the increased time spent online by adults and children using social media. In December 2023, a US Navy officer planned a sexual encounter with a 13-year-old girl, but in reality an undercover FBI agent was waiting for him in New York.
